چکیده
Metronidazole resistance among Prevotella spp. is rare. We report here the first case of bacteremia due to a high-level metronidazole-resistant Prevotella sp. responsible for treatment failure.

Clinical review: Bacteremia caused by anaerobic bacteria in children
This review describes the microbiology, diagnosis and management of bacteremia caused by anaerobic bacteria in children. Bacteroides fragilis, Peptostreptococcus sp., Clostridium sp., and Fusobacterium sp. were the most common clinically significant anaerobic isolates. The strains of anaerobic organisms found depended, to a large extent, on the portal of entry and the underlying disease. Predis...
متن کاملIn-vitro activity of spiramycin and metronidazole alone or in combination against clinical isolates from odontogenic abscesses.
One hundred and forty-eight isolates of bacteria from 20 intraoral odontogenic abscesses were tested for their susceptibility to spiramycin and metronidazole alone or in combination. All isolates, except Rothia spp. (one), Enterococcus avium (three), Haemophilus parainfluenzae (one) and Staphylococcus aureus (one) were sensitive to spiramycin and/or metronidazole. Among the anaerobes, spiramyci...
متن کاملActivity of pradofloxacin against Porphyromonas and Prevotella spp. Implicated in periodontal disease in dogs: susceptibility test data from a European multicenter study.
Collaborating veterinarians from five European countries collected subgingival bacterial samples from dogs exhibiting clinical periodontal disease. Sterile endodontic paper points were used for collection of the samples, which were transported to a central laboratory for susceptibility testing. Anaerobic bacteria were isolated and Porphyromonas and Prevotella isolates identified to the species ...
متن کاملAntimicrobial susceptibility of Prevotella isolates from abscesses of fascial spaces of the face and neck Susceptibilitatea antimicrobiana a izolatelor de Prevotella din abcese ale ale spatiului fascial al feŃei şi gîtului
The aim of the present study was to investigate the antimicrobial susceptibility of a collection of 65 Prevotella strains originating from Romanian patients with abscesses of fascial spaces of the face and neck. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of benzylpenicillin, cefoxitin, clindamycin and metronidazole were determined with the Etest. In addition, the beta-lactamase production was assess...
متن کاملHuman case of bacteremia caused by Streptococcus canis sequence type 9 harboring the scm gene
Streptococcus canis (Sc) is a zoonotic pathogen that is transferred mainly from companion animals to humans. One of the major virulence factors in Sc is the M-like protein encoded by the scm gene, which is involved in anti-phagocytic activities, as well as the recruitment of plasminogen to the bacterial surface in cooperation with enolase, and the consequent enhancement of bacterial transmigrat...
